Must-visit restaurant for the best, traditional vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis in Mysore! Restaurants To Lunch At In Mysore.
Karnataka has some delicious fare on offer and these iconic dishes can be savoured as a whole in its Thalis. To experience these traditional flavours Food Lovers’ Editor, Kripal Amanna visits La Uppu, the all-day dining restaurant at Grand Mercure Mysore for not just one, but two thalis for lunch.
He interacts with local chef, Vijay in the kitchen understanding what goes into some of the dishes on the thali. At the table he begins lunch with the Mysuru Thali, a vegetarian thali featuring dishes such as Bisi Bele Bath, Mysore Bonda, Chitranna, Thilisaaru, Mysore Pak and Godhi Halwa. He then tastes the non-vegetarian Karnataka Thali that comes with a Donne Biryani, Gorikayi Kara and Koli Saaru among other dishes.
GOURMET ON THE ROAD RATINGS
Mysore Thali
MYSORE BONDA
mildly seasoned bonda. dunk it into the thili saaru to perk up its flavours
THILI SAARU
there’s a puckering tartness in this rasam, gentle spice and slight, soothing sweetness in its flavours.
BALEKAI FRY
raw banana fry with a nice masala coating. no-fuss, tasty, fried goodness.
BELE TAWE
Thick, creamy lentil preparation with chilli, mustard and curry leaves. the kind that would perhaps be served in a typical Mysuru kitchen.
GORIKAYI PALYA
Lightly tempered, this cluster bean preparation is delicious, savour it with the akki rotti.
BADNEKAYI GOJJU
loaded with onions, the flavours of the masala make this brinjal dish shine!
CHITRANA
a satisfying rice preparation, flavoured with tumeric, onions and lemon juice.
BISI BELE BATH
a tasty bisi bele bath! the rice is fortified with lentils and a gentle warmth from the red chilli. the ghee on top makes this dish all the more irresistible!
KOSAMBARI
the kosambari is quite generous in its use of grated coconut. perfect palate refresher in between tasting all the dishes on the thali.
MOSARANNA
the cool yoghurt and mild tempering makes the mosaranna the best way to end an all vegetarian meal.
MYSORE PAK
all the ghee makes this mysore pak melt in the mouth!
GODHI PAYASAM
the best part to this wheat payasam is that it isn’t very sweet. it’s a light dish for a dessert, not leaving you feeling too heavy!
The Mysore Thali is priced at Rs 999 +taxes per person.

Karnataka Thali
GORIKAYI PALYA
this version of the palya or veggie preparation is spicy and uses a mint, green coriander and chilli paste!
KOLI SAARU
a rich, thick gravy that is flavoured with methi or fenugreek. there’s also some chilli and whole spices that have been ground and added to the masala.
MUTTON DONNE BIRYANI
the rice in this biryani is very mellow in its flavours. you taste the signature donne masala or spicing but this isn’t overly powerful. the meat is soft and tender, cooked really well!
The Karnataka Thali is priced at Rs 999 +taxes per person.

Just brilliant … Your team is doing work sir … Love to watch your content. Continue to explore the unique taste around.?????
I am jealous of your “ummmmm” sound you make while tasting a dish
First like from Andhra Pradesh
I’m a Bangladeshi, I travelled to Bangalore 2 years ago, As I’m watching your videos, I realized that I’ve experienced nothing there, So, next year I’m planning to visit Karnataka again and Mysore, Mangalore will be in my list, will definitely travel there
Where are you now?
@Vinayak Hegde That’s a very rude thing to say. In my experience no one in India said such cheap things to me. They were very polite and humble. I hope that you understand that you should not throw such cheap comments to travellers. I really hope and pray that you get to travel and see the world and broaden your mind. thank you ?
Good decision, you need 2 months just to try the wide range of cuisines within one state 😉
You are welcome to this state. Have fun if you do visit…
One more gem from Kripal… great going!

Kripal sir ur a rock star ??
I subscribed seeing the way you eat!!!! You do it with great relish plus at the same time so gracefully that I start feeling hungry just seeing you eat!! Also appreciate the wonderful commentary. Especially since you give it in background avoiding talking with morsels in your mouth.
I have a small criticism though. Please reduce the number of times you say “mnmmhh”. The importance gets lost.
Respected sir, luv the way u present ur videos,,huge fan of u sir,God bless you
